Founded by intrepid traveller and surf enthusiast Ben Howells, Akin emerged from our desire to create a clothing brand that blends our love for surf and travel with the philosophy that anyone can make a difference. Our Pocket T-shirts are created for likeminded individuals seeking high quality essentials that become part of their everyday rotation.
With school supplies already delivered to 16 countries and counting, plus the backing of the artists, explorers and visionaries who make up The Wavemakers collective, we’re showing kids that through their actions they can engender positive, long-lasting change for themselves and others.
WHY POCKET TEES?
Pocket t-shirts have been a staple in the surf lifestyle for decades, and we wanted to incorporate this classic style into our brand.
A simple pocket on a t-shirt is understated yet functional. It's also a perfectly sized canvas that allows our kids and contributing artists to showcase their talents, and because every pocket is exactly the same dimensions, we're giving each individual an equal opportunity to express themselves.
THE PAY IT FORWARD CYCLE
Our innovative Pay It Forward Cycle is exactly that – a cycle that ensures there’s a steady rotation of school supplies and uniforms being delivered to the kids who need them most.
Having the kids drive this cycle is everything to us, and the fact they benefit from the Pocket Tee proceeds of the previous batch means they're both a recipient and an active participant in the cycle.
Each child's contribution helps fund supplies for others, creating a ripple of positive change. This model highlights the value of being part of something bigger than oneself and proves it’s possible to inspire change through one’s actions.
